Kevin Barney, “The Murder of Zacharias,” By Common Consent (blog), 11 October 2006. Barney comments on Jesus’ obscure statement in Matthew 23:35 and the common interpretation among Latter-day Saints that “Zacharias son of Barachias” was the father of John the Baptist.
Eschatology is the Christian theology of the “last days” (ἔσχατον, eschaton). Major eschatological passages in the Bible are found in the books of Ezekiel, Daniel, Zechariah, and the John’s Book of Revelation. The Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24 is eschatological. Wikipedia’s article on “Christian eschatology” has a good overview of the various approaches to end-times prophecy held among different branches of Christianity. (Latter-day Saints are most closely aligned with Dispensationalists.)
