The early Christian writer Irenaeus (ca. ᴀ.ᴅ. 180) dated Revelation to the reign of the Roman Emperor Domitian (r. ᴀ.ᴅ. 81–96), and noted that some manuscripts of Revelation 13:18 read “616” instead of “666.” Irenaeus, Against Heresies 5:30.
On 8 April 1843, Joseph Smith gave a discourse on the subject of the beasts in the book of Revelation. You can read notes taken of his remarks that were made by William Clayton (4 pages), Willard Richards (9 pages), and Franklin D. Richards (1 page) on the website of the Joseph Smith Papers.
